Emperor Specialty Foods Ltd, established in 1986, imports and distributes a wide range of gourmet products, including fresh and dried mushrooms, truffles, and specialty foods. Initially focused on fresh shiitake mushrooms, Emperor Specialty Foods Ltd expanded to import mushrooms from China and local sources in 1995. By 1998, they became the first Canadian company to import fresh mushrooms from China via ocean shipment, and their distribution network quickly grew throughout Canada and into the U.S. In 2001, they opened an office in China to develop new suppliers and products, adding imported fruits and vegetables to their offerings. They also produce organic fresh shiitake mushrooms in Vancouver.
